08/08/15: Humanitarians meet in Quarteira

Rosa Carvalho, Zé do Pedal and José Lima

Pedal Joe (Zé do Pedal) met today the wheel chair travellers José Lima and Rosa Carvalho in Quarteira, Algarve, Portugal

It was a meeting between Men who fight for humanitarian causes. Pedal Joe is part of the programme of the Lions International Vision for All. José Lima and Rosa Carvalho just crossed Portugal for the second time (870 km), from north to south, on wheel chairs, in 15 days. They are fighting for the undoing of the tabus affecting people with disabilities and the recognition of their equal status as citizens, and preparing for the London Para-Olympic Games.

08/08/13: Pedal Joe arrives in Faro, Algarve

The São Brás BTT Team welcoming Pedal Joe

Yesterday evening, Pedal Joe surprised everyone by arriving at São Brás de Alportel, one day before schedule. He found lodgings at a friend's house, where he rested deservedly.

This evening he was accompanied to Faro (with two cyclists pushing him in turn - at high speed!) by the BTT Club (Mountain Bike Club) of São Brás, where he had a warm welcome by the local Lions and was offered a kingly dinner by the Faro Moto Club.

Joe will meet José Lima and Rosa Carvalho in Quarteira on Friday, the 13th of August. Then he will start another leg of his trip in direction of Seville, and from there on to Algeciras where he will embark to Marocco to start his long African journey.
